What is GRE?

Why do I need to write GRE?
GRE tests, the preparedness of the students for their master's program. However, not every university requires GRE. There are few universities that accept students even without writing the exam.
What is the pattern of the examination?
It consists of six sections with a 10-minute break after the third section. The first section is the analytical writing section which contains two essay questions, where you will be tested your writing skills. This is for 1 hour. Next is verbal reasoning which contains 2 sections. It takes 1 hour to complete 2 sections. This is followed by quantitative reasoning where again you will have 2 sections again to be written which has a time limit of 1 hour 10 minutes for both the sections. The last one is the experimental section, where you will be either provided with a verbal or quantitative section. This is optional.
How are we going to score in this exam?
The scoring pattern is usually on a scale of 130–170 in both verbal and quantitative sections. Where the lowest score is 130 and the highest will be 170. Coming to the analytical writing section you will be awarded the grade point on a scale of 0–6.
What is considered to be the best score in the GRE exam?
Usually, there is no optimum score for this exam. It completely depends on the university you are going to choose. Hence, it is better to look for the universities first, find out their required GRE scores for those universities and then put a target score.
What is the cost of the GRE examination?
The fee for the GRE exam is $205 i.e. 13,500 rupees in Indian currency.
What is the eligibility criterion to write the GRE exam?
The only requirement is to have a valid passport, i.e. no Photostat copies of your identity are allowed.
Can I write the exam multiple times in a year?
Usually, GRE can be re-attempted only after 25 days from your previous date. You have a chance to write this exam 5 times (max) in a year.
